Hi! My name is Liu and I will sell you the best goddamn Hermes bag that you can ever lay your eyes on (seriously, no exaggerations!) I am not an Hermes salesman – I sell the lesser expensive, fake brother of it. I kind of like to think of myself as a Messiah – helping average people live extra-ordinarily and enjoy the finer things of life (of course the Hermes folks would disagree!) I have been in this business for almost 20 years – started off by selling Louis Vuitton bags, then Michael Kors on the streets and finally upgraded myself to Hermes. Why is that an upgrade you ask? You see re-creating a Louis Vuitton or Michael Kors bags is extremely simple – very simple designs plastered all across the bag. Hermes, is more about the quality of the product than stamping the bag with a logo. When you see an Hermes, you know it’s an Hermes, because of the craftsmanship involved. Anyway, I have been doing this for 20 years and the reason I decided to pursue this path was plain and simple – I didn’t want to work for anyone else but be my own boss
I am sure you must be wondering, how does one go about making these fantastic Hermes fake versions? Well let me give you a bit of a rundown of how this industry works. Almost all of these fake bags that you see /buy from the streets of New York, come from China (no surprise). There are distributors, who go to one of these real stores, buy the real product and send it back to their factory in China. The Chinese craftsmen then begin re-creating the bag en-mass and ship it back to the United States, specifically to New Jersey to the shipping port. On average, there is a shipment per week of these type of products. Once the shipment arrives, our affiliated distributors send us a text with the details of the time & location for pick up, which, by the way, changes almost every week to avoid being in the spotlight. We show up, pay the agreed upon price per bag and then take the bags with us to NYC. Since I switched to Hermes bags (5 years ago), I have never had a week where I don’t sell out all of my orders. This was actually one of the reasons I decided to switch to a higher brand. There are a lot of people selling Michael Kors & LV bags but when it comes to Hermes, due to the quality & craftsmanship involved, you have to pony up a larger sum to the distributor in order to get access to sell it. However, with higher price, comes a small but well to-do population of customers who are willing to shell out a slightly large sum of money to get as close to the original! Although I cannot reveal their names, I have some regulars who are part of the Page 6 crowd and have been photographed with my bags! Anyway, enough about the background, here is my Life in the Day of:
10 AM: Get up, shower, get ready and have breakfast. My days run longer so I tend to wake up later.
11 AM: Leave Queens and head to Jersey for my weekly pick up. Pick-ups are usually scheduled in the afternoon so as to not disrupt the peak hours of evening
2 PM: Got the bags, had to pay $6,000 for 15 bags. But that’s not an issue since these babies sell themselves. After picking up the bags, I head downtown from Jersey and stop by my favorite Halal Food cart by Wall Street. I get my regular chicken over rice (with no vegetables) and head to Canal street.
3 PM: Talk to a few guys, get the inside scoop on which street corner got raided recently and accordingly position my location for selling. There have been a large number of crackdowns lately where undercover cops, acting as tourists, have made quite a few arrests. I have been fortunate in that over the last 20 years, I have never been caught once and I intend to continue doing that. For the first few years, I got lucky but now I can read & tell of the looming danger so I am able to duck out at the right time.
5 PM: Its show time! The time from 5 pm – 9 pm is the best time to sell bags. I don’t know why this is always the best time but my theory is since it starts getting dark, people feel more comfortable going out in search of a fake bag. They have the cover of the shadows to prevent them from getting identified by a friend or acquaintance! Either way, it’s very beneficial for my business
9 PM: Finish my last sale. The customer was looking for an orange Birkin bag which I was fortunate to have since she was willing to pay the top-most dollar for it. She was a tourist and judging from the accent, I want to say from the Middle East. I make my last sale for the day and head home. It was a good day today – sold 4 bags and made around $4,000 – told you these babies sell for themselves!
