OK so probably should have written out this post before I posted my Mallorca blog but whatever, too late for that now.
Anyway, so why did we pick Barcelona? Well…ummmm…..because my girlfriend found really cheap tickets! 🤣
I always had a soft spot for Barcelona in any case and mostly because my favorite soccer club is FC Barcelona, the CATALAN GIANT! I also just wanted to really go to Europe since my girlfriend has been there already and we're keeping a track of how many continents we can cover so this was my big chance to level the score.
OK so we made it into the European Union and our first stop was actually Portugal: wrote a blog about our 10 hour trip in Lisbon so show me some love on that and like it 👍🏽
After a marathon (don't take it literally) in Portugal, we were on our way to Barcelona which we reached at midnight. There's no such thing as Uber in Barca at the moment, so I felt like a caveman but took the cab instead all the way to our Airbnb. The cabs were actually pretty nice so we weren't that bummed out about not having the option of an Uber. After a 40 mins cab ride, we found our Airbnb host and his amazing house that we got the chance to stay in.
OK so the Lisbon speed dash really took a lot out of me and my girlfriend. When we woke up, it felt like it was all just a dream. We got our bearings together and had amazing breakfast with our Airbnb host, who gave us some quick pointers about things to do in Barcelona. Jotting everything down as quickly as possible, we made our move to explore Barcelona. As soon as we made it out of our Airbnb accommodations, which was located on a steep slope, we decided to challenge ourselves and walk the opposite way all the way up the slope.
After a grueling walk away from where we wanted to go we decided to ask a local playing with his awesome dog (looked like Lassie) about anything near-by which would be cool for us to check out. Not sure what happened there but the guy looked so stressed that we decided that the area we were in really didn't have any good places to check out so we left and made our way to the heart of Barcelona.
As we headed down, we caught some amazing glimpses of Barcelona...check it out! 👇🏽
Once we got all the way down, we started to see a lot more people and I got to admit, they got better at giving suggestions on where to go - unlike the stressed out guy 😰 with the awesome dog 🐕
Now we started to feel/hear the audible growls of our stomachs.....time for lunch! 🍽
Oh and this one was totally bizarre but came across this lovely picture of a famous actress from India...we didn't expect to see this!
After some good food and some good laughs, we started to head towards Placa de Catalunya, making our way through Gothic Quarter.
Then the time had come for something both my girlfriend and I were extremely excited to check out....the famous La Sagrada Familia. We actually booked the tickets online which turned out to be a great idea since the ticket line there was crazy!
The interiors of La Sagrada Familia were simply amazing! Pictures seriously don't do justice but I'm gonna put them up here anyway.
La Sagrada Familia has such great detailed work outside. I got the chance to take some cool pictures depicting this!
Of course after all this we did get a little parched but fortunately there were some great restaurant/bars near-by. It was getting a bit chilly so we decided to find something where we would feel warm! That's a reasonable ask, right?
Well after this the weather got real bad and it stared pouring. But we marched on. Next on our list to check out was Basílica de Santa Maria del Pi. It's got lots of uber cool architectural design work done. I'm sure you all will really appreciate it!
Next on our list was the Catedral de Barcelona. The churches in Spain have a rich history and obviously I don't want to go and explain all of that here (you could obviously just Wikipedia it) but long story short, there are 13 geese kept here. The number 13 because Eulalia of Barcelona was 13 when she was martyred. So yeah, that!
Barcelona is just such an amazing city! There were numerous moments where you would just stop and take in the beauty of this city. My girlfriend and I planning on flying down here again sometime in a few months, which we think is the biggest validation we can give to a really cool place! Definitely take a trip here and if there's any more interesting things that can be done here then please leave a comment and definitely let us know! Thank you for reading our ramblings 😄🇪🇸✈️
